The ModelIt could be argued that the most successful educator of the last forty years is Sesame Street. The single, breakthrough insight of Sesame Street is that if you can hold the attention of children, you can educate them. We have used a very similar model in developing ClubCharm. We will hold their attention through activities that challenge their skills and encourage the to consider basic issues like right and wrong, responsibility, and being a friend. And we’ll do it in the confines of a loving environment. We are creating a community of young girls who stand for something. It’s our pivotal belief that if we want to bring about fundamental changes in children’s value systems and behaviors, we need to create a community where those beliefs and corresponding behaviors can be practiced, expressed and nurtured. Actions become habits. And habits become character. And, as educators [like Sesame Street] recognize that to make this learning fundamental to their character, we need to keep the “fun” before “da mental.” |
